| Description: | Flaming River Industries introduces the latest in power steering technology – electronic power steering for use with manual steering boxes or manual rack & pinions on vehicles weighing up to 3200 pounds.
The electric power steering system increases available horsepower, removes all pumps, hoses and reservoirs from the steering system, saving weight and eliminating leak potentials. The compact motor assembly (16" long, 9" high) is ideal for space limited applications that may not allow use of standard power steering systems. The motor assembly weighs approximately 12 pounds, and can be clocked 360 degree for the best mounting position.
The system includes:
• Electronic Steering Controller (ESC) module with built-in electronic system diagnostics
• Driver controlled potentiometer – Allows the driver to control steering resistance
• Electric driver motor assembly
• Steering system couplers
• Wiring Harness
The driver can control the system's sensitivity from the driver's seat to meet personal preferences. In normal driving, the steering assist is minimal, acting like manual steering. It provides greatest assistance during hard cornering or at low speeds during parking and slow maneuvering. The electronic steering assist system has a fail-safe mode that instantly returns to manual steering should power be lost to the control module.
The electronic steering control (ESC) module is programmed to compensate for aerodynamic down force changes with speed/wind resistance, road/tire resistance on steering system, plus driver steering resistance preferences. Additionally, the electronic power steering control module is equipped with a computer diagnostic port to download data acquisition and fault codes for competition use or service.
The electronic power steering motor unit (FR40106) attaches to any floor shift column or mounted independently at any point in the steering shaft assembly and fabrication expertise is required for installation. A custom column (FR40107) is available to mount to the FR40106 motor assembly.
